The Rogers Heritage Varsity Bowling team, led by head coach Juan Garcia, has been soaring through conference play this season, dominating the lanes as they maintain a high momentum heading toward the postseason.
Despite the high scores, the team’s recent success isn’t just a stroke of luck. Garcia has pushed the War Eagles to stay focused on their energy and consistency, making sure every player stays sharp under pressure. On Feb. 3 the team competed at the ultimate conference tournament in Ozark with boys scoring third place and girls getting runner up. While their conference performance has put a target on their backs, the players say their ability to keep soaring comes down to the hours of work they put in during practice before the first ball is even rolled.
In an email asking about how they keep their heads maintained during conference games, Garcia said, “The plan is to put our best out there [on] the lanes and show what we’ve been doing all season, being consistent, energetic, and everyone supporting everyone throughout the whole process.”
The War Eagles’ accomplishment this year is the result of the team constantly building on what they started last season. Instead of just being happy with where they were, the group has focused on discipline.
“The biggest improvement from last year is our growth in maturity and confidence. I think both our teams, girls and boys, have shown tremendous maturity and resilience throughout the season,” said Garcia.
While the team’s overall climb has been impressive, nothing defines their season quite like the individual excellence on display during high-pressure moments. Parker Logan (12) took that standard to a whole new level recently, pulling off a rare thing in the sport. His perfect 300 point game didn’t just add a massive win to the War Eagles’ record; it served as the ultimate proof that the team’s focus on consistency and composure is paying off in the biggest way possible.
Garcia had nothing but praise for the senior as he said in an email, “Parker Logan’s perfect 300 game was historic. The energy from everyone lifting him up and pushing him through it was contagious. The energy in the bowling alley was electric. Everyone there, including the opposing teams, showed so much support and enthusiasm. It shows what the bowling community is all about. I couldn’t be more proud or happier for Parker’s hard work.”
There is no doubt Logan’s intentions were to have a perfect night as he prepared himself in a consistent manner. “I typically get to the bowling alley 30-45 minutes before gametime to mentally prepare myself and to get all my equipment prepped and ready. Then I listen to worship music and sit for a bit to relax and take the stress out of the equation. Next, I usually talk some details over with coaches, captains and teammates to get everyone on the same page right before game time,” said Logan. With this routine and his perfect game, Logan could only put one word to the entire game; energetic.
