Terrence Crutcher was shot and killed on September 16, 2016, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was having some car problems in the middle of the road so he got out to try to fix it, it appeared as if the car was still on. Someone called the local police saying, “Someone left their vehicle running in the middle of the street with the doors wide open.” The Tulsa police responded and approached Terrence, who had his hands up. In the video, Crutcher walked up to the officers with his hands up, one of the helicopter officers said “This guy is still walking.” and the second officer “Time for a taser I think… That looks like a bad dude, too.” The officers on the ground said that Terrence reached for something in his car and they used a taser, a short while after that officer Betty Shelby fired her gun once at Crutcher. His family was devastated. His twin sister Tiffany criticized the police officers in the copper saying, “That big bad dude-his life mattered.” His family saying that the shooting of unarmed people of color is an “epidemic.” After the shooting, chief of police Chuck Jordan stated, “There was no gun on the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle.” Crutcher’s family has said that Terrence did not deserve to die, but police officer Betty Shelby deserves to be held accountable for her actions, she is currently on paid leave. It may take weeks for the decision to see what will happen to the officer that killed him.
