“Michelle Lavaughn Robinson, girl of the South Side — for the past 25 years, you have not only been my wife, the mother of my children, you have been my best friend,” Obama said. “You took on a job you didn’t ask for, and you made it your own with grace and with grit and with style and good humor.”

The Obama’s have left the office, but that doesn’t mean we still cannot appreciate one of the most gracious first lady’s: Michelle Obama. From taking on the role of being the first lady to doing carpool karaoke with James Cordon, Michelle has been an amazing role model to many. From bringing light to the rising numbers of child obesity and working hard to help girls get the education they deserve and need. Her love for her children and Barack Obama have definitely been an envy and joy to many.

  1. She helped bring attention to child obesity in America and created Let’s Move! campaign to help promote healthier eating habits and encourage children to get outside and exercise. Along with the Let’s Move! campaign she worked with PHA (Partnership for a Healthier America and serves as an honorary chair member) to reduce prices on fruits and vegetables and make kid’s menus at restaurants healthier.
  2. Michelle has always been interested in encouraging women and young girls around the world. She hosted the United State of Women summit and had a Let Girls Learn initiative. The initiative aims to break the barriers girls around the world face to get a quality education. She appeared in James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke and sang her song (featuring Missy Eliot) “This Is For My Girls”
  3. The Former Flotus also changed the kind of food being served in public schools. She rallied the Healthy, Hunger-Free Act, as the USDA indicates the first major changes in school meals in 15 years, to prompt schools to serve healthier foods and reduce the costs of lunches for low-income children.
  4. Michelle also helped veterans by starting Join Forces to provide support and resources for veterans and their families.
