Promoting academic excellence and providing students with skills and support needed to be admitted to some of the top schools in the United States – this is the mission of a new program for sophomores called the Rogers Honors Academy.

This organization aims to educate parents and students about college choices so they can make informed decisions. It will expand the possibilities open to students through increased understanding about the admissions process and financial aid through visits to colleges and meetings with representatives. It will increase the number of Rogers Public Schools college-going students and support the underrepresented students in this process. Overall, Rogers Honors Academy strives to aid students in achieving their college and career dreams.

Scholars apart of this program are some of the best the school district has to offer; not only are they set to experience a rigorous curriculum, but students must also have earned a GPA of 3.75 or higher, and they had to submit a teacher recommendation. Some of the tasks they will have to do to prepare for their future are to attend college fairs, student panels, and college-related activities, take ACT and SAT workshops, go on college visits, and complete consistent service for either the community, their family, or for a job.

This program is beneficial for the Rogers community because as an area that doesn’t have easy access to the top colleges, many students are unaware of the opportunities that those schools have to offer. Getting into an Ivy League school like Harvard or Cornell might seem impossible to a student from a small city like Rogers, Arkansas, but hopefully, the Rogers Honors Academy will help future graduates aim high.

Students accepted into this new program are owed congratulations on their exemplary work in school. The Rogers Honors Academy Induction Ceremony will take place Sunday, February 12, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the Rogers High School Auditorium.
