If you haven’t heard of her, you’re missing out on one of the most influential rising stars of our time. She is an opinionated musician, actress, and activist who speaks openly about loving herself and encouraging others to love themselves and others. Although she participated in projects in childhood, Beatrice Miller entered the spotlight in 2012 on X-Factor. Miller has two full albums and an EP, Young Blood, Not An Apology, and Aurora. Miller is only 19 years old, but she is already creating ideas that will revolutionize the music industry. Aurora, fully released in February of 2018, but Miller decided to release the album in a new way, tailored to the way people are now consuming music.

Miller is credited with the idea of releasing the 14-track album three songs at a time and three times through the year of 2017. Miller called these miniature releases “chapters“.  Additionally, Miller has Synthesia, a condition defined as the mixing of senses. This means that Miller involuntarily imagines colors in correlation to music she is listening to. Aurora and its chapters are named after this phenomenon; Chapter One: Blue, Chapter Two: Red, and Chapter Three: Yellow are also related to the emotion the songs of the chapter convey. Miller effectively combines three elements at once, three separate times, that all come together to make this awesome, empowering record.

Miller’s idea has already inspired other artists to begin marketing their music in similar ways because it is more aligned with the consumer’s shortening attention span. Plus, with more time to focus on fewer songs, it doesn’t overwhelm the artist when fans are demanding music videos and other special additions to the tracks. Miller is an artist who doesn’t over price her music, concerts, or merchandise. On social media, she is quick to speak up for her beliefs and protect others, as well as communicate with her fans regularly.

Aurora is, in my opinion, extremely underrated. The full album can be streamed for free on most streaming apps, so Miller’s only request from her fans is that they listen to her music because listens are the only way her career will translate to substantial success without her “selling out”. Miller deserves this success because of her ideas, values, content, and skill.
