A recent video has sparked outrage among many people, and PETA has been calling for a boycott against the movie “A Dog’s Purpose.” The movie is described as ” a devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan. As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroad, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self.”

A video was leaked by the famous gossip site called TMZ showing a frightened German Shepherd being thrown into choppy waters. In the video, people can be heard saying “he ain’t gonna calm down until you throw him in the water.” The German Shepherd is seeing trying to scramble away from the water, and once he is in, he appears to submerge under water causing frighten crew members to go after him.

PETA released this statement about the leaked video, “It takes a cold heart not to find this footage disturbing, so PETA asks whether A Dog’s Purpose was written from the heart or just to make a buck,” said PETA VP Lisa Lange. “Whistleblowers invariably fear for their jobs, but this footage was bravely made public after PETA exposed cruelty to animals at the film’s reported dog supplier. If additional footage exists, it should be made public, but it won’t change the footage of a terrified dog forced into churning water any more than nanny cam footage of a bedtime story changes footage of a caregiver hitting a child.” Twitter trended #BoycottADogsPurpose for the day after seeing the leaked video. Many throughout the hashtag wrote about how it broke their hearts and disgusted them after seeing the video.

Dennis Quad, who plays an older character, defended the filmmakers and said, “The dog was fine,” he said on NBC’s “Today” on Wednesday. “This was a piece of video that was shot during the making of this. Some unknown person at the time. He also spliced, edited and manipulated that to make it look as if the dog was being abused. The dog had been in that water happily, and even afterward too.” Hopefully, the investigations that are supposed to take place by an independent third party will clear up the confusion with the leaked video.
