What is going on with Cosmic Brownies?
November 4, 2016
Cosmic Brownies are my staple snack. Having eaten a brownie a day for quite some time now, I’ve become pretty well acquainted with these delicious treats. I find the concave ridge down the center of the brownie very important. As soon as I open one of these prepackaged delicacies, I gauge the amount of colorful chocolate chips and the evenness of their distribution (is that weird?), then break the brownie in half and eat a square.
So the other week, they only had the large boxes of Cosmic Brownies when I stopped by Wal-Mart. I wasn’t bitter about that, though. After all, it does just mean I have a greater personal supply of snacks. I was not pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and all of the brownies lacked the single most important structural asset to these snacks. I tried breaking the rectangle in half, but without the line, it was nearly impossible to be as satisfied with the results. For an entire two weeks, I was slightly disappointed by these brownies.
But the thing is, it was just that specific box. I couldn’t find another brownie in this entire planet that lacked the ridge. I mean, sure, I didn’t really look too in depth, but none of my friends had brownies that didn’t have the crease. I was not only internally conflicted on a strange level, but I found that my friends also had a certain amount of interest in my mutant snack. Once I ate all those brownies, absolutely 100% crease free, I picked up another box at Walmart. Guess what? The new box of Brownies had the beloved crease. My friend’s box of Cosmic Brownies had the crease. I am confused as to why my big box of beautiful cosmic brownies didn’t have a crease? It’s important to me. What went wrong? I’m just resting well knowing that my current box has the crease.

When they say “big box” they mean big brownie. As in, instead of two break-apart brownies, you get one big brownie exactly the same size as the two small ones.
I know, because this year I too was fooled into thinking I was getting a big box of Christmas Tree cakes only to have this ugly, less flavorful but indeed, bigger tree.

Did you figure out what the problem was?
I got the same creaseless ones from my school Cafe.
I am worried they may have had peanuts for some reason (I am allergic)

Unfortunately, I never did find a conclusive cause. It’s probably just some kind of production thing; I bet the factory has multiple machines and maybe some of those machines simply don’t put the crease. You should double check the ingredients on the labels of both the creased and creaseless brownies to ensure there isn’t a peanut issue, though!
