United Airlines has recently faced extreme backlash due to the way they handled an overbooked flight. United Airlines accidentally overbooked a flight and then asked for people to volunteer to get off the plane. After a while, no one decided to volunteer off so they started to choose people at random. One of the passengers that was chosen refused to get off, stating that he needed to be on the plane because he had work the next day. He works as a doctor and needed to tend some patients the very next day. After he kept refusing to leave security was called in to remove him from the plane. The controversy begins because of how extreme the security officers handled the man, videos were posted on Twitter showing the excessive amount of force used on the innocent man. He was unwilling removed from the chair getting injured. He ran back to the plane, covered in blood, repeating “I need to go home.”

Since the video was released, United Airlines Chief Executive Officer Oscar Munoz said, “This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United. I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers.” This statement caused some more outrage due to Oscar saying “re-accommodate.” This caused him to have to issue a new apology. Though it may have been given too late because many people still hate the airline company.

The lawyer of the doctor has come out and said that he plans to sue United Airlines over this ordeal. Doctor David Dao’s lawyer has said his client was physically and emotionally hurt after being “dragged off like a sack of potatoes” and has since claimed to have suffered a concussion from the ordeal.
