This Thursday, President Barack Obama surprised Vice-President Joe Biden with the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award. He was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor with Distinction, an honor only given to three other people in history.

The emotional ceremony brought heartfelt speeches from both Obama and Biden, praising each other for their service, their leadership, their accomplishments, and their friendship. Overall, it reminded the nation of the best bromance the White House has seen. Throughout the past eight years, the bond between these two has been heart-warming and hilarious.

Despite coming from very different backgrounds, the two worked together extremely well. Not only that, they became actual best friends. In Obama’s farewell speech, he announced that choosing Joe Biden as his Vice-President was the first decision he made as a nominee, and it was the best decision he made. The Barack and Biden bromance, though it dates farther back, really gained attention over the past few months when memes joking about the Vice-President’s funny antics and the Presidents down-to-earth, authority presence became popular.

The two have been there for each other through the hard times and the good times. They’ve even made friendship bracelets for each other. In the Medal of Freedom ceremony, Obama praised Biden “for your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations…” He assured the crowd that the Obama’s and Biden’s would be “forever binded as a family.” Obama said that in choosing Joe as his VP, he “gained a brother.” In the past, Biden called his President “a brother to me, a best friend forever.” Even though his role does not have many inherent powers, Biden thanked Obama for asking him to help govern.

Their relationship is one of the strongest the White House has ever seen, and even though the Barack and Biden bromance is leaving their home of eight years, it’s certain that their friendship will not end there. There is no doubt that we will see more of their legendary partnership even after their terms.
