The song was originally co-written by Sia, Tobis Jesso Jr., and Adele for Adele’s upcoming third album. The UK singer rejected the song last minute, and it came under the ownership of Rhianna afterwards. Eventually, the song was returned to Sia, and it’s safe to say that that’s where it belongs.

Sia became hugely successful through her popular song “Chandelier”. “Alive” is just as emotional and electrifying. She’s well-known for her powerhouse voice, but this new song has her stretching her vocals farther than she has before. There’s definitely similarities to Adele’s style in the song, but the lyrics are as deep and sincere as Sia’s past successes.
