Staff Picks: Raspberry Cobbler
March 4, 2016
Of every dessert, I personally feel like raspberry cobbler is by far the best. Even the most perfect chocolate chip cookies and the most moist chocolate fudge brownies can’t compare to the absolute delicious bliss of raspberry cobbler. Cobbler is a decades old dessert that holds awards in my heart. Raspberry cobbler : me :: naps : cats. I really like it.
The breading part on top is a perfect pairing to the sweet filling underneath. It’s both light and fluffy while maintaining a slight crunch. It also neutralizes some of the raspberry filling’s sweetness and is something that probably aids my mother in dealing with my hyperactivity. I would be fine with only the filling. That might be weird, but through the fall and winter seasons I would make a cobbler every week so do I really seem like a girl who cares about lacking breading on her cobbler? I mean really, It’s all about the filling anyway; every cobbler has the same breading (obviously as long as you’re using the same recipe every time).
Red raspberries not only taste delicious but also have many health benefits. Studies show they’re linked to reducing risks of metabolically-based chronic diseases because they provide multiple essential nutrients. Raspberries are full of antioxidants. All of these things combined is what makes them a great addition to many foods ranging from fruit salad and salad dressings to The Great Wall of Chocolate at P.F. Chang’s. Even Jolly Ranchers feature the flavor blue raspberry. Raspberries are a great alteration to the traditional southern peach cobbler that I recommend every time. Canned raspberry filling can be found in Wal-Mart and is good for many other things than just cobbler.
Though I’m clearly a fan of all forms of raspberry eating, the aforementioned cobbler is my all time favorite. Typically cobbler is eaten as a dessert, but I feel that indulging in it for breakfast some mornings is justified. From the sweet, gooey filling to the light, fluffy breading, raspberry cobbler is always my go-to treat. It’s definitely worth the wait, especially when a scoop of vanilla ice cream is placed on top of a warm serving of the delicious dessert.
