Springdale football player killed in crash

The War Eagles played Springdale on Friday the 23rd. Heritage lost the game due to a strong connection between Layne Hutchins (QB) and Kyler Williams (WR). That evening, Williams amassed 10 catches for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Saturday night the Springdale Bulldogs all-state wideout was killed in a car crash. Kyler Williams was a phenomenal athlete for the Red-dogs. The NWA Democrat-Gazette paid tribute to him over the weekend by posting all of his sports newspaper pictures in an article. Springdale High School held a memorial for him last Sunday at Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium; friends and family came by the hundreds to show their support for Kyler. Har-Ber High, Springdale’s rival, painted a mural showing a unified town in support of the Bulldogs.

In northwest Arkansas, people took to Twitter after hearing the news of the fallen athlete. Sports writers, friends, people who knew his name, members of the Razorback football team, and schools all paid their respects to Kyler’s family. Rogers and Heritage student section leaders put aside the annual rivalry hype and started a movement for all 7A west schools to wear red at this Friday’s game to honor Williams and the Bulldogs. All students of the 7A west are encouraged to participate in the “red out” on Friday in Williams’s memory.
