Remembering Selena Quintanilla
March 31, 2016
March 31 marks 21 years since the passing of Mexican-American singer and fashion designer Selena Quintanilla. She was fatally shot by Yolanda Saldivar, the founder of her fan club, on March 21, 1995. Selena was known as “The Queen of Tejano Music.” She performed with a band called Los Dinos, that was started by her father and included her sister and brother. She married fellow band member and the love of her life Chris Perez on April 2, 1992.
Selena’s legend still lives on with her many fans. They remember her and her catchy music fondly. The first number one song she had was a duet with Alvaro Torres called “Buenos Amigos.” Another song “Amor Prohibido” hit number one on billboard. My personal favorite song “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” was her fourth number one on billboard.
Selena also has a movie out dedicated to her called Selena. The movie was released on March 21, 1997, two years after her death. The movie tells the story of her father’s career and how Selena and Los Dinos came to be. Their struggles and their success all in one movie that touches Selena Quintanilla fans.
