Islamaphobia at Los Osos High School
May 13, 2016
Los Osos in Rancho Cucamonga, California is under fire for calling a Muslim girl “Isis” in their school yearbook. The girl’s name is Bayan Zehlif, a name nowhere close to being Isis.
Bayan posted the photo of her and the name to Twitter, where it has been shared by thousands of people. Her caption was “I guess I’m Isis in the yearbook…”
She also wrote a Facebook statement stating: “I am extremely saddened, disgusted, hurt and embarrassed that the Los Osos High School yearbook was able to get away with this. The school reached out to me and had the audacity to say that this was a typo. I beg to differ, let’s be real.” In California, over half of Muslim students like Bayan Zehlif report being harassed over their faith. -HuffPost.com
Zehlif says she has been bullied and harassed by her classmates over her faith. She is also worried when they call her name for graduation, students will scream “ISIS” or other islamophobic remarks.

I’m a student at Los Osos and it was an accident. The real Isis Phillips is on the same page and her picture was moved but not her name.. It was a simple accident that was taken to extremes.
