Han Solo Standalone Movie: 2018
April 11, 2017
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story completely shattered my brain and feelings. It was incredible. But there is more where that came from.
Wikipedia describes Han Solo as “Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero. Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, was one of the great leaders of the Rebel Alliance.” Disney and Lucasfilm recently announced their plans to release a film based on Han Solo; they still haven’t announced an official title for it. What we do know is that it will follow Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film will take place between Episodes III and IV, before Han met Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. This brings us a younger Han Solo; Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the film will follow Han between the ages of 18 to 24. During this period of his life, he meets his beloved Chewie and obtains the Millenium Falcon.
The cast was also announced. After searching extensively for the ideal Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich was cast for the role. The rest of the cast includes “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke, “Westworld” star Thandie Newton, Donald Glover, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, and the amazing Woody Harrelson as Han Solo’s mentor.
The press release confirmed that filming is already underway. Soon enough we’ll find out what exotic places will become interstellar planets.
The directors issued a statement: “Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous. We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
The Han Solo film is set to be released on May 25, 2018, a little over a year from now.
