Expect the unexpected
October 3, 2016
It’s probably too soon for me to be frantic over Avengers: Infinity War. But my anxiety is unstoppable.
With the release of Captain America: Civil War, I feared the worst. Namely the death of Iron Man, Captain America, or the Winter Soldier. Most of all Captain America because he met his end in the of the comic version of Civil War. SPOILER ALERT! In the Civil War movie, Captain America meets a symbolic death. After an epic and yet heartbreaking battle with Iron Man, Captain America drops his shield, officially yielding his position as an Avenger. :'( Steve Rogers is still alive, but in a way Captain America is not.
Anthony Russo, a director at Marvel, says, “The tragedy is the family falls apart. Not that the family falls apart and then somebody dies.”
Ultimately, there were no actual deaths of any key characters. That leaves me with the distressing reality that there is a very high probability that someone is going to die in either Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 or Part 2, maybe even both.
Marvel can’t keep everyone alive; it’s just not realistic. But the question is who?
As of now, the most painful deaths, in my opinion, have been those of Quicksilver, Agent Coulson (Hear me out: As far as Marvel movies go, Coulson is dead. Thankfully he’s still existent in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” But when he did die, it was agonizing and tragic), Agent Carter, and Professor Yinsen, the man who helped Tony Stark escape the cave and to whom we owe the creation of Iron Man.
The release of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set for May 4, 2018. I have until then to emotionally prepare myself; I have until then to expect the unexpected.
