September 27th, 2016 the article “The History of Memes” by Kallina was published on our newspaper. The article obviously revolved around memes and how they changed throughout our lifetime. Close to the end of the article, she stated that the famous and beloved memes “Doge” and “Arthur’s fist” were pathetic. I will not stand for this. I’m not the only person who is agitated by this claim, some of my fellow writers will agree with me that those classic memes are NOT pathetic. iFunny founder who goes by iFunnyChef on Twitter tweeted at the Heritage Talon’s twitter saying “Nice article () but I have to disagree: “Doge” and “Arthur’s Fist” are not “pathetic”. It’s comedy gold.” So we have someone with greater authority about memes than all of us agreeing with me and my fellow co-workers that these memes are great, fantastic, phenomenal, and straight up comedy gold. Anyone who has comedy sense will see these memes and say, “Yeah this gave me a good laugh and chuckle.” Sure the Arthur’s fist meme is fairly new while the Doge meme has been around for a long time, but the age of the memes don’t diminish the amount of comedy it gives us. Why can’t we accept that all memes are funny and amazing and we should all stop the hate, all memes are created equal and they should all be treated as such? As I write this opinion piece I am frustrated that my fellow writer, someone who I have worked with for a while would say such a thing.
