Behind the Scenes of Flight Night

Bertha Villagomez, Writer

A new year of high school has begun! Many students, parents, and facility are excited to get education going, but there is nothing like a good Friday Flight Night to get our year hyped and ready to go!  Everyone has a role in Flight Night including the audience. Preparation for this day takes multiple weeks and even months.  Flight Night is a way of supporting and giving recognition to our Rogers Heritage High School athletes. Lead by Coach Wilson, Coach Randolph, Coach Gunnell, and Coach Philp, the spirit department works throughout the summer to set up and coordinate the event. Football, basketball, baseball, cheer, cross country, dance, golf, swimming, soccer, softball, tennis, track, wrestling, bowling, volleyball, Lingle and Oakdale football, are all a part of this excellent and remarkable event! Not to forget as well the parents and staff that help out to make everything work and function correctly. A parent who volunteers with children that are part of any of the sport is allowed to help out if want to! As a volunteer, they are to help put all athletes in order from whom they will be presented by and categorized.

Unfortunately, there is always a chance when it comes to events happening that teams won’t be able to be there. Our volleyball team was one of these teams who didn’t have a senior present due to a tournament. However, Katelyn Brown, their Senior Captain was excited to stay and represent her team! As the season drew near, the defensive coordinator shared how they prepare their team, “We talk about how the athletes need to act and be thankful for the support we receive,” stated Coach Wilson. He continued, “Flight isn’t just about celebrating our student-athletes but to be thankful for the opportunities that come for the Heritage Eagles to have recognition. Flight Night runs off a lot of people and machines to prepare for. We thank all those who participate to make this event joyful and fun as possible!”
