Not surprisingly, the award-winning musical “La La Land” was given 14 Oscar nominations, tying with previous records held by “All About Eve” and “Titanic.” Among other nominations, “La La Land” is up for Best Picture, and both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are up for Best Actress and Best Actor. “It was kind of a given that “La La Land” would succeed with the Oscar nominations, given that they made history at the Golden Globes previously this month when they won all seven of the awards they had been nominated for.

In past years, other than the Leonardo DiCaprio Oscar ordeal, there has been a campaign for the Academy to include more diversity in its nominations. Due to that, the #OscarsSoWhite arose.

This year’s nominations included more diversity; seven actors of color have been nominated for this year’s Oscars, including Denzel Washington and Viola Davis for “Fences,” Ruth Negga for “Loving,” Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris for “Moonlight”, Dev Patel for “Lion”, and Octavia Spencer for “Hidden Figures.” Now the #OscarsLessWhite seems to have replaced the previous trend.

To Ryan Reynolds’s dismay, Deadpool did not make the cut and was not nominated, even though it was such an incredibly successful film. Among other movies, actors, and actresses that have been snubbed there is “Finding Dory”, which was neglected in favor of “Zootopia” and “Moana”, other Disney favorites.

Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 89th Academy Awards on February 26th.
