915 Coins Found in ‘Piggy Bank’

On March 21, 2017,  A female green sea turtle nicknamed ‘Piggy Bank’ passed the way due to blood poisoning caused by the consumption of 915 coins thrown in her pond by tourists.  Piggy Bank resided at the Turtle Conservation Center in Chonburi providence, Thailand.  The 25-year-old turtle lived under captivity in Chonburi Providence for twenty years. The 915 coins tourist had thrown in her pond were unfortunately swallowed by Piggy Bank; the large amount of metal mass in the turtle’s body caused Piggy Bank’s underside of her shell to crack.  An eleven-pound pile of coins was visible on her CT scan of the turtle; the coins had lodged her digestive track.  A few days after a successful seven-hour operation Piggy Bank developed blood poisoning and severe intestinal complications. She was rushed to intensive care due to her slow breathing.  The following day had emergency surgery, after which she slipped into a coma.  Veterinarians say that the large gap in the turtle’s stomach strangled her intestines causing major blood infections which ultimately lead to her death.
